Description
As often happens when talking about pastry, enjoying the delicious dishes, the story mixes with the legend and their creation is surrounded by a romantic and fairy-tale halo. And as is often the case with Turin and Piedmontese traditions, the stories and legends are linked to the Savoy royal family. Thus, the history of the kisses of ladies is lost in the halls of the royal palaces of the House of Savoy. Legend has it that on a beautiful day in 1852, King Vittorio Emanuele II asked the court cooks to taste a new cake with a taste and shape different from usual. The royal cooks set to work between flour, sugar, eggs and chocolate and soon after they churned out, to the delight of the sovereign, the now famous kisses of checkers. The delicacy obtained the approval of the sovereign, was since then served on the royal tables of the rest of Italy and Europe.
